Gorakhpur's First Electric AC Double-Decker Bus Hits the Road: New Route Finalized to Boost Regional Tourism and Public Transit

Post

Uttar Pradesh's eastern hub has officially stepped into a modern era of sustainable mass transit. The Gorakhpur region has launched its maiden electric AC double-decker bus, marking a major milestone in urban and regional mobility. Operating on the high-demand Gorakhpur-Kasya route, this eco-friendly transit marvel is designed to transform commuter travel while simultaneously giving a powerful boost to regional tourism. With its high passenger capacity, affordable pricing, and zero-emission profile, the double-decker service promises to redefine travel standards for locals, pilgrims, and tourists visiting the historic region.

Route Details, Passenger Capacity, and Affordable Fare Structure

The state-of-the-art double-decker bus boasts a robust seating capacity of 66 passengers, making it an efficient solution for high-volume commuter routes. According to Transport Corporation Regional Manager Luv Kumar Singh, the fare for this luxury ride has been kept extremely economical—just six percent higher than standard ordinary bus services, while remaining significantly cheaper than other electric and AC buses currently on the road. Although a formal daily timetable is set to be released shortly, the bus has already commenced operations on the Gorakhpur-Kasya route, facilitating seamless journeys for travelers heading toward prominent tourist and spiritual destinations.

Expanding Electric Mobility and Future Fleet Projections for Eastern UP

Building on the successful rollout of the region's first double-decker electric bus, transport authorities are already planning major expansions across eastern Uttar Pradesh. A formal proposal seeking approval for three additional AC double-decker buses has been dispatched to the state government, with plans to deploy them across other key regional corridors once cleared. This initiative aligns with the Yogi Adityanath government's broader vision of championing environmental protection, cutting fossil fuel consumption, and modernizing public transport. Currently, a robust fleet of 20 electric AC buses is already operating successfully from the Gorakhpur depot, connecting key routes such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Tamkuhiraj, Salempur, and Sonauli on fixed, reliable schedules.
