Devotees Throng Bareilly's Nath Temples on Final Monday of Sawan Despite Scorching Heat

Post

Bareilly was immersed in deep spiritual devotion as the holy month of Sawan concluded with its fourth and final Monday. Thousands of devotees thronged the city's revered Nath temples and Shivalayas from early morning, demonstrating unwavering faith by offering ritual water (Jalabhishek) and performing darshan despite intense sunshine and soaring temperatures.

Massive Turnout at Historic Nath Temples

The entire region resonated with continuous chants of “Har Har Mahadev,” “Bam Bam Bhole,” and “Om Namah Shivay.” Long queues formed early in the morning at the city's prominent shrines, including Alakhnath, Madhinath, Tapeshwarnath, Trivatinath, Bankhandinath, and Pashupatinath temples.

At the Dhopeshwarnath temple complex, massive crowds extended from the temple pond out into the neighboring streets. Women, children, and elderly devotees waited patiently for hours in the scorching sun for their turn inside the sanctum sanctorum. To manage the immense footfall, local police administration deployed heavy security personnel and erected barricades for orderly crowd control.

Kanwariyas Complete Sacred Rituals

Groups of pilgrims carrying holy Ganges water procured from Haridwar and Badaun’s Kachla Ghat arrived at the temples to offer jalabhishek. Many devotees performed traditional penance inside the temple premises, asking for forgiveness from Lord Shiva for any unintentional lapses during their arduous pilgrimage while praying for familial and societal prosperity.

Service Camps and Grand Rudrabhishek

To support the influx of travelers and local devotees, various social organizations and Shiva committees established extensive service camps across Bareilly. These stations provided resting spaces, fresh fruit, purified drinking water, hot meals, and medical first-aid for fatigued travelers.

Special religious ceremonies were also organized across the city. At the Turantnath Temple in the Sugar Mill Colony, a grand Rudrabhishek and havan-puja was conducted, with participants noting that performing these sacred rituals during Sawan brings inner peace, dispels suffering, and fulfills long-standing aspirations.
