Chandrashekhar Azad Demands Impartial Probe and Return to Ballot Papers

Stepping up the political assault on Nirvachan Sadan, Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) founder and Nagina Lok Sabha MP Chandrashekhar Azad has called for the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Pointing to mounting controversies surrounding voter roll revisions and allegations of administrative bias, the firebrand parliamentarian asserted that every single election conducted under Kumar’s stewardship must face an independent, high-level probe. Azad maintained that when the integrity of the top constitutional arbiter itself stands questioned, the poll panel loses its moral claim to institutional impartiality. He further demanded that India scrap Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and revert entirely to paper ballots to restore trust among ordinary citizens.

Ballot Papers Over EVMs: Protecting the Right to Vote in Indian Democracy

Reiterating that the universal franchise remains the supreme safeguard of the republic, Azad questioned the transparency of recent electoral procedures:

Sovereignty of the Vote: Highlighting that the vote represents the most potent weapon in a constitutional democracy, Azad warned that compromising or manipulating citizens' franchise poses an existential threat to democratic governance.

The Question of Guarding EVMs: Questioning official narratives on poll sanctity, the Nagina MP asked why candidates and political workers find themselves compelled to camp outside strongrooms and physically guard EVMs for up to a month and a half if the balloting process is truly fair and uncompromised.

Return to Paper Ballots: To eliminate deep-seated public suspicion and eliminate software tampering doubts, he urged statutory authorities to abandon EVMs in favor of transparent, physical ballot paper voting across all upcoming assembly and general elections.

Shifting gears toward regional power dynamics, Azad announced a major political mobilization to establish his party's organizational dominance across Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Vidhan Sabha elections:

Constitution Day Mega Rally: The Azad Samaj Party has directed its cadre across all 75 districts to descend upon Lucknow on November 26, Constitution Day. Projecting an attendance larger than traditional Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) gatherings, he appealed to grassroots workers to save one rupee daily to ensure their presence in the state capital.

Conditional Support to Mayawati: Clarifying his political stance toward BSP supremo Mayawati, Azad stated that if the former chief minister secures the numbers to form a government and requires outside support to keep anti-Bahujan forces out of power, he would willingly extend backing.

Reviving Campus Democracy: Beyond electoral alignments, Azad pressed for the immediate reinstatement of student union elections across state universities and colleges, emphasizing that vibrant campus politics serves as the primary nursery for grooming young leaders from underprivileged communities.
