A major rail tragedy was averted on Friday night in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district thanks to the swift vigilance of frontline railway staff on the Kaptanganj-Thawe section under the North Eastern Railway zone. A potentially catastrophic rail fracture was detected along the main track line close to the eastern railway gate number 46C near Dudhhi railway station. Prompt coordination between the on-duty gateman and the local station superintendent brought upcoming passenger traffic to an emergency standstill just in time. While the timely detection prevented train derailments, rail operations on the busy cross-border route connecting Bihar's Thawe to Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur remained severely disrupted for over four hours as engineering teams worked in difficult weather conditions to replace the fractured rail section.

Vigilance at Gate 46C: Quick Coordination Stops Approaching Passenger Trains

The incident unfolded during the evening peak travel hours when standard safety inspections identified structural failure on the running line:

Timely Detection: At approximately 6:30 PM, gateman Mukesh Yadav stationed at eastern gate number 46C spotted the fractured track near Dudhhi railway station and immediately alerted Station Superintendent Manmohan Kumar.

Rapid Emergency Chain: Recognizing the grave threat to running passenger trains, the station superintendent stopped signal clearances and alerted the railway control room along with Permanent Way Inspector (PWI/PWD) Pramod Bhaskar.

Rain-Soaked Restoration Work: Engineering and technical teams arrived at Dudhhi station around 8:30 PM amid steady, heavy rain, commencing track replacement and safety testing before declaring the line fit for operation at 10:30 PM.

Multiple Passenger Trains Stranded: Long Delays on the Gorakhpur-Thawe Section

While disaster was successfully averted, the four-hour track closure left several passenger trains stranded at intermediate rural stations, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters:

Train 55035 Up Passenger: The Thawe-bound local was halted at Tamkuhi Road station for 193 minutes, remaining stationary from 7:23 PM until normal departures resumed at 10:36 PM.

Train 15079 Up Passenger: Detained at Tarayasujan railway station for 86 minutes, the train was held from 9:14 PM until receiving technical clearance at 10:40 PM.

Train 15114 Up Passenger: Regulated at Jalalpur station for 24 minutes between 10:21 PM and 10:45 PM before operations on the entire section gradually normalized.
