Approval granted for 10 innovative food processing projects; the 'double-engine' government is making farmers, women, and the youth self-reliant: Keshav Prasad Maurya
In accordance with the directives of Keshav Prasad Maurya, a meeting of the Appraisal Committee—constituted under the Uttar Pradesh Food Processing Industry Policy-2023—was held at the Directorate of Food Processing. During the meeting, the committee conducted a detailed examination of new investment proposals received via the portal, evaluating their eligibility, project-related documents, and adherence to prescribed standards. Consequently, 10 proposals were recommended for approval, subject to the fulfillment of necessary conditions. These projects encompass activities such as the production of cattle feed, grains, refined spices, peanut processing, frozen and other food products, ready-to-cook items, oil, flour, pulses, and gram flour (besan), as well as pulse milling and the processing of frozen fruits and vegetables. Some projects also propose the establishment of solar power plants. The Appraisal Committee issued directives to ensure compliance with requirements regarding the procurement of raw materials from local farmers, plant layouts, fire and pollution control certificates, capacity utilization, electricity bills, and other essential documentation.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that the food processing sector serves as a vital medium for transforming the youth from job seekers into job creators. He emphasized that the government's priority is to make rural women and self-help groups economically self-reliant by integrating them into these schemes. He stressed the need to disseminate information about these schemes to every village, ensuring that no eligible individual is deprived of government benefits due to a lack of awareness. He remarked that the path to a developed Uttar Pradesh lies in self-reliant villages, prosperous farmers, empowered women, and gainfully employed youth. He noted that Uttar Pradesh is an agrarian state with abundant availability of wheat, paddy, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, and other agricultural produce. Increasing local-level processing of these products would provide farmers with market access and better prices, generate rural employment, and offer the youth opportunities for advancement within their own region.
