In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), in collaboration with Jharkhand Police, successfully eliminated notorious gangster Anuj Kanaujia in a late-night encounter in Jamshedpur. Kanaujia, aged 42, was a dreaded sharpshooter associated with the Mukhtar Ansari gang and had a long history of violent crimes across Uttar Pradesh.

Decades of Criminal Activities

Hailing from Bahlolpur village in Mau district, Kanaujia's criminal journey began in 2003 with his first murder in the Ranipur area. Over the years, he became infamous for multiple offenses, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, and extortion. Authorities had registered 23 criminal cases against him across Mau, Ghazipur, and Azamgarh districts.

The Encounter in Jamshedpur

Acting on precise intelligence regarding Kanaujia's whereabouts, the joint team of UP STF and Jharkhand Police tracked him to a residence in Jamshedpur's Govindpur area. Upon attempting to apprehend him, Kanaujia opened fire and hurled explosives at the police team, leading to a retaliatory action. During the exchange, Deputy Superintendent of Police D.K. Shahi sustained injuries but continued to lead the operation. Kanaujia was critically injured in the crossfire and was later declared dead at the hospital.

Seizure of Arms and Ammunition

Post-encounter, law enforcement recovered significant weaponry from Kanaujia, including a 9mm Browning pistol, a .32 bore pistol, two live grenades, and multiple rounds of ammunition. These seizures underscore the level of threat he posed and his preparedness for violent confrontations.

Impact on Organized Crime in Uttar Pradesh

Kanaujia's elimination marks a pivotal moment in Uttar Pradesh's ongoing battle against organized crime syndicates. His association with the Mukhtar Ansari gang and involvement in recruiting and training unemployed youth for criminal activities had been a significant concern for law enforcement agencies. This operation is expected to disrupt the network and deter similar criminal endeavors in the region.
