The US Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, was in India on an official visit and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week. He gifted her Gangajal that was collected from the recently ended Maha Kumbh Mela.
During the meeting, Modi also presented a rudraksha bead mala to Gabbard.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated that Gabbard’s visit was a part of a broader trip aimed towards building a strategic partnership between India and the US. He further mentioned that both countries are committed to fighting terrorism and improving collaboration in maritime and cyber security.
PM Modi referred to their meeting in the United States, when he congratulated her during the India-US friendship talk for being elected as the Director of National Intelligence under President Donald Trump.
Gabbard is on a two and a half day trip to India from the United States and is spearheading a high level visit from the Trump administration.
During an interview with ANI, Gabbard mentioned the Modi-Trump meeting and remarked that, “there is no limit to how India and the US can work together.” Gabbard asserted, [...] "There’s not any bounds to where the United States and India are looking to cooperate." She remarked that both leaders demonstrated determination towards enhancing trade and investment during their White House meeting last month to make their citizens and nations stronger. Gabbard made note of the rate of India’s tariffs and said that, “the US and India are speaking on top level…and that tells a lot.” “There is more potential for strengthening our economic relationship and I'm glad to see that they're looking at it in a more positive light than just one that is focused in a negative way when we look at tariffs,” she stated further.
The U.S. intelligence chief indicated that both Trump and PM Modi are searching for a “good solution.” She also remarked that the rapport between the two leaders is the bedrock on which India and the U.S. will construct their partnership. Gabbard meets Rajnath Singh Earlier in the day, Tulsi Gabbard met with the defense minister who voiced concerns about the actions of the Khalistani separatist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) in the United States and asked her to label it a terrorist group. During a meeting at Singh's office located at the Raisina Hills, Gabbard was further briefed by Singh about SFJ’s purported ties to the Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and its purported “collaboration” with the Babbar Khalsa militant group and called for action against it, PTI reported, citing sources. Singh expressed concern about the SFJ's assaults on multiple buildings associated with Hinduism in the United States and said that these activities cannot continue.
