At the same time, Ukraine’s military commander says that Ukrainian forces have now taken control of about 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Monday that Ukrainian troops were conducting further operations inside Russia’s Kursk region. In a post on Telegram, Zelensky praised the country’s soldiers and commanders for their firmness and decisive actions. He did not say anything more about his troops’ march into Russia. He suggested that Ukraine would provide humanitarian aid to the region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday said Ukraine’s incursion in the Kursk region is an attempt by Kyiv to stop Moscow’s aggression in Donbas. Addressing a meeting with top defense officials, Putin said Ukraine’s attack last Tuesday reflects Kyiv’s attempt to strengthen its position in future negotiations. Putin said the Russian army has further intensified its aggression in Donbas.
