Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The United Kingdom, together with the United States, is working towards a sustainable peace deal between India and Pakistan, as confirmed by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Speaking to Reuters during his two-day stay in Pakistan, Lammy emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and trust-building measures during relations between the two countries.

Lammy reiterates England’s position, saying, “We, together with the United States, will continue working to ensure there is enduring ceasefire that enables us to facilitate dialogue alongside Pakistan and India. And in working through with those measures, confidence and confidence building exercises can be attained between the two sides.”  

UK Urges For Compliance with Treaty Amidst Water Dispute  

Answering concerns regarding India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, which threatens Pakistan water supply, Lammy calls for honoring international obligations. He said, “We would strongly ask all parties concerned to comply with their treaty commitments.”

Tension after Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam Terror Attack

Tension escalated between the two nations further after the Pahalgam terror attack where 26 civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir by The Resistance Front (TRF), a subsidiary of Lashkar-e-Taiba. In retaliation, India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking with surgical precision on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan's western borders.

Pakistani attempts at counterattacks on May 8, 9 and 10 fired on Indian defense forces regions, which were vehemently fended off by the Indian military forces. On May 10, India executed counterstrikes on 8 Pakistani airforce bases with missiles and other long range munitions.

Military Discussions Shift the Lines of Hostilities

Hostilities ceased after military commanders, referred to as the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs), from both parties reached a mutual agreement to stop military activities. A ceasefire agreement to stop fighting, Air and naval operations was set into place at 5 Pm May 10.

Prime Minister Modi on Operation Sindoor

After the operation, Indian PM Modi commended the military retaliatory action as a milestone in India’s counter-terrorism strategy. He remarked: “The Indian armed forces performed exact hits on the terrorist bases and training facilities in Pakistan, striking them hard." Modi added that Operation Sindoor has set a new benchmark for anti-terror operations in the country.
