Reports suggest that both BJP MP Dinesh Sharma and Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar have changed the name plates on their residences at Tughlaq Lane to “Swami Vivekanand Marg”. This corroborates with the party members' intent to rename different parts of the city.
Sharma hosted a house warming for his new residence in Tughlaq Lane, Delhi on Thursday. He was active on X, posting pictures of the ‘Graiha Pravesh’ along with his family and captioning it: “As per the rituals and prayers, I have today performed the house warming ceremony of my new residence at Swami Vivekanand Marg (Tughlaq Lane) in New Delhi.”
Both Sharma and Gurjar's mark Tughlaq Lane in the national capital as Swami Vivekananda Marg as seen on the nameplates of their respective houses.
It has also been observed that a number of BJP MLAs have put forth suggestions to rename a number of places in the city including changing the Najafgarh Assembly constituency to Nahargarh, Mohammadpur village to Madhavpuram, and Mustafabad to Shivpuri.
In the course of a conversation with ANI, BJP MLA Anil Sharma was quoted saying, “The corporation had passed a proposal to change the name of Madhavpuram village long ago. That proposal has still not been acted upon in Assembly for a long time now. Up until now, there was a government of Aam Admi Party, so they must have kept it buried somewhere. This is an issue I will take it.”
In the Assembly, BJP MLA Neelam Pahalwan was heard saying, “In the 1857 revolt, Raja Nahar Singh fought and succeeded in the capturing Najafgarh and including it to the Delhi territory. In spite of so many attempts like through Ex MP Parvesh Verma, we tried to change name of Najafgarh to ‘Nahargarh’. I hope you all will support us in this one.”
Parallel to this, it has also been suggested that Akbar road which is located in the city where the former headquarters of the Congress party was based until this January is changed.
