Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The aftermath of a crushing by-election defeat in Ludhiana has plunged the Punjab Congress into a full-blown crisis, with explosive allegations of "treachery and sabotage" being leveled against the party's own top leadership.
A furious faction within the party is openly accusing its senior-most state leaders of deliberately engineering the defeat of their own candidate to settle internal scores.
The controversy erupted after the Congress candidate, Gurpreet Gogi, suffered a humiliating loss in the Ludhiana West by-election, even failing to save his security deposit. The seat was won by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Leading the charge is Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who has not minced words. He has openly accused Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa of secretly colluding with AAP to ensure Gogi's defeat.
Khaira alleges that these top leaders were conspicuously absent from the campaign trail and, behind the scenes, actively worked to help the AAP candidate, Mohinder Singh Kaypee.
The allegations stem from deep-seated factionalism within the state unit. Gogi is reportedly seen as being part of a rival camp within the party. His accusers claim that the party leadership wanted him to lose to weaken his faction's influence.
Khaira is not keeping the fight local; he has demanded that the party's central high command launch a thorough investigation into the "sabotage." He warned that if no action is taken, it will confirm that the state leadership acted with the silent approval of the party's central command in Delhi.
This public implosion has exposed the deep cracks within the Punjab Congress, turning a simple election loss into a serious crisis of credibility and unity that threatens to destabilize the party in the key state.
