Suspense crime, Digital Desk : A senior officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Deputy Commandant B.C. Behera, lost his life after being caught in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast during an anti-Naxal operation in Odisha’s Sundergarh district.

The blast occurred in a dense forest area near Damki village while Behera was leading a search operation based on intelligence about Maoist movement in the region. A highly trained operative specializing in anti-Maoist warfare, he was part of the CRPF's 165th battalion, which was deployed to neutralize the insurgent threat.

Following the powerful explosion, Deputy Commandant Behera was immediately evacuated from the scene. However, he tragically succumbed to his severe injuries while being transported for medical treatment. A native of Kendrapada district in Odisha, his death marks a significant loss for the security forces engaged in combating the left-wing insurgency in the state.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep sorrow over the officer’s death, praising his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. In recognition of his service, the state government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50 lakh to the family of the fallen officer.
