Suspense crime, Digital Desk : If you’ve settled in to watch your favorite show on Amazon Prime Video recently, you might have been met with an unwelcome surprise: commercials. In a major shift for the streaming service, Amazon has introduced advertisements to its standard Prime Video subscription in several countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Germany.

Amazon says this change will allow it to "continue investing in compelling content" for years to come. But for viewers who signed up for an ad-free experience, it's a frustrating change.

The good news is that you can get rid of the ads. The bad news? It will cost you extra. Amazon is now offering an "ad-free" tier for an additional monthly fee (for example, it costs $2.99 per month in the United States on top of your existing Prime membership).

If you want to go back to uninterrupted binge-watching, here is a simple, step-by-step guide to upgrading your account.

How to Go Ad-Free on Prime Video:

Log In to Your Account: Open your web browser and go to the Amazon website. Log in with your credentials.

Go to Your Account Settings: In the top-right corner, hover over "Account & Lists" and click on "Memberships & Subscriptions" from the dropdown menu.

Find Your Prime Membership: On the next page, you should see your Amazon Prime membership details listed. Click on it to manage your subscription.

Select the Ad-Free Option: Look for a section related to Prime Video and an option that says "Go ad-free." Click this button.

Confirm and Pay: A pop-up window will appear, asking you to confirm the new subscription and the additional monthly charge. Follow the on-screen instructions to start your ad-free plan.

A Quick Heads-Up: What "Ad-Free" Doesn't Cover

It’s important to know that even if you pay for the ad-free upgrade, you will still see commercials in two specific cases:

Live Events: Content like live sports will continue to have ad breaks, similar to traditional broadcast TV.

Amazon Freevee: Any movies or shows streamed through Amazon Freevee, which is a separate, ad-supported service accessible via Prime Video, will still contain ads.

Ultimately, Amazon has changed the game for Prime Video, turning it into a two-tiered service. You can either stick with the standard plan and watch with ads, or pay a little extra each month to keep your viewing experience commercial-free.
