Nikhil Gupta, who has been accused of conspiring to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Sikh separatist in the USA, has stated that even though his family put forth several requests, there has been no attempt made by the Indian government to reach out to him. 

Nikhil had been transferred in the United States from Czech Republic…He was talking to Indian Express from his detention center Metropolitan in New York.

He stated to the Indian Express, “By now it has been around more than seven months that I was extradited from Prague to New York and during the entire period, no one from Indian embassy visited me. Though my family raised several request asking the embassy to contact me when in New York”. 

In 2023 Gupta’s family reached out to the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court rejected their plea stating that the matter is too sensitive. The plea that Gupta put out regarding the embassy officers and the letters is true as he said, and a lot of chaos followed the events.

Gupta alleged that the United States produced evidence that was fabricated and he also denied any association with Yadav Vikash who was allegedly Yadav Vikash as the co conspirator who was tasked with killing Pannun. 

As an Indian Yadav was first branded as a Lay official against Mandeep Singh Yadava’s interests, now he has been sought by the public prosecutor of the United States. He continues to be in India and has received bail for an extortion suit registered against him by the special cell of Delhi Police.

Gupta said, Yadav is a common name and Vikas is a common name and India is a large – family community hence I don't know anyone with that name or anything to do with this issue “I have only seen the name in the superseding of the September 2009 section which has come out on November 2024 and repose interrogated with few details about the weather before fins”.

Gupta(53) refreshs his time in jail as,” not easy “, he said :“No, life is not easy in prison, but it can be much worse for innocent people whom I have seen jailed and separated thousands of miles away from their family. I have a request as I am aware my mother, wife and children will read or listen this, because I don’t want them to feel like I have told a lie, so I try to look tough. ”

Gupta was granted permission to contact his family in India and is allotted at least one phone call with them every month.  

Yadav and Gupta are pleaded to be involved in hiring a murder with a maximum possible eight to ten years in Jail, assassination conspiracy with a sentence of ten years, and a laundering conspiracy that could have a longer maximum of two decades, as per the Indian Express report.
