The stock market started trading with a big decline on Monday. The benchmark Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading at a level of 79,034.15 at 9:15 am with a huge decline of more than 452.17 points. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange (Nifty) 50 was also trading at a level of 24,016.15, down 132.05 points. At the beginning of trading, Maruti Suzuki, Britannia, Tata Motors, Cipla, and SBI were seen in major gains on the Nifty, while Asian Paints, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, Shriram Finance, and Hindalco were seen in losses.

Pre-opening also declined

The domestic stock market showed a decline in pre-opening today. Both the Sensex and Nifty indexes were under pressure. Sensex was trading at 79,104.19 with a decline of 382.13 points. At the same time, Nifty was trading at 24,084 with a decline of 64.20 points. During today’s trading, the BSE Midcap index fell by 0.6 percent and the Smallcap index fell by 1 percent. Except for IT and auto, all other indices are trading in the red, including Telecom, Media, Capital Goods, Healthcare, Metal, Oil, and Gas down by 0.5-1 percent.

Tata Motors shares jump.

Tata Motors’ share price rose nearly 3% in morning trade on Monday and was among the top gainers among Nifty 50 stocks on the day the benchmark indices traded in the market. Tata Motors’ share price opened at ₹ 801 on the NSE on Monday, marginally lower than its previous close of ₹ 800.95. Tata Motors’ share price fell to a low of ₹ 792, however, bounced back to ₹ 829 levels, showing a gain of nearly 3%.

Underperformance in the Indian market at present

The Indian market is currently witnessing underperformance due to continuous large selling by foreign institutional investors. Talking about the last week, FIIs have sold about Rs 20,000 crore. During this period, domestic institutional investors have bought Rs 14,391 crore. In the last 29 sessions, foreign institutional investors have sold Rs 1.41 lakh crore.
