The guitar that is no longer playable, was purchased by an anonymous individual in the United States for approximately 5 crore rupees ($600,000). The famous musician Kurt Cobain repaired this guitar and made it into a piece. He was the lead singer of the hit rock band Nirvana. In 1994, before his untimely death, Cobain had smashed the guitar during the making of the band’s album ‘Nevermind’ in the early 90s. It was salvaged and despite being severely broken, it has now become valuable and worth millions of dollars.
After its repair, the Cobain guitar was signed by all the other three member of the band Nirvana using silver ink. A black colored guitar called the Stratocaster which is a Fender brand, was sold at an auction in a Hard Rock Café in New York. In this auction, the guitar fetched a price that was significantly higher than expected, receiving more than ten times its estimated value. The exact value of this guitar was $595,900 (over 4.94 crore rupees)
In 1992, during a music tour Kurt Cobain had handed over this guitar to his collaborator, Mark Langon. However, while the value of the guitar was significant, it was not the only expensive guitar that Cobain possessed. Another iconic guitar, previously used by the rockstar during his famous 1993 MTV Unplugged performance, had been sold for $6 million two years ago. There is still considerable buzz and discussion about this guitar on social media platforms.
