Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In the complex world of international diplomacy, China presents two very different faces. To India, it speaks of cooperation, peace, and mutual growth, especially within forums like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). But behind this diplomatic curtain, a different and more alarming strategy is at play—one that reveals China's clear and unwavering support for Pakistan, often at India's direct expense.
This isn't just a matter of playing favorites; it's a calculated "double game" designed to keep India bogged down in regional conflicts, thereby hindering its rise as a global power. A closer look at China's recent actions reveals a pattern of behavior that directly undermines India's security and sovereignty.
Ignoring India's Borders and Sovereignty
One of the most blatant examples is China's deep involvement in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), a territory India rightfully claims. Beijing is financing and constructing the massive Diamer-Bhasha Dam on the Indus River in PoK. This, along with the controversial China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which also runs through this disputed territory, is a direct challenge to India's territorial integrity. Despite India's consistent objections, China continues to pour billions into these projects, effectively endorsing Pakistan's control over the region.
Providing Diplomatic Shields for Terrorists
On the global stage, China's actions are even more telling. At the United Nations Security Council, China has repeatedly acted as a shield for Pakistan-based terror groups. On multiple occasions, it has used its veto power to block proposals, often brought by India and the United States, to designate known terrorists as global threats. This diplomatic protection allows individuals responsible for attacks on India to evade international sanctions and continue their operations, a move that is impossible to reconcile with any claim of friendship towards New Delhi.
Tipping the Military Balance
China's support isn't just economic and diplomatic; it's military. Beijing is Pakistan's largest and most important supplier of advanced military hardware. It has equipped the Pakistani military with everything from modern naval warships to, most recently, an entire squadron of J-10C fighter jets—aircraft comparable to India's Rafale jets. This isn't just a business deal; it's a strategic decision to ensure that the military balance in the region remains tense, forcing India to constantly focus its resources and attention on its western border.
The Ultimate Goal: Containing India
The strategy becomes clear when you connect the dots. By arming Pakistan, protecting its terrorist assets, and violating India's sovereignty in PoK, China is executing a classic containment strategy. The goal is to keep India perpetually entangled in South Asian disputes—the "South Asian trap"—to prevent it from projecting power and influence on the wider global stage where it could compete with China.
For India, the message is stark: China's words of peace and cooperation are a smokescreen. The dragon's true allegiance lies in a strategy that uses Pakistan as a pawn to check India's ambitions, making any notion of trust a dangerous gamble.
