Recently, he has made some rather shocking comments regarding Muslims once again. This has caused a stir in the politics of the state. He stated that it is BJP’s intention to ‘physically throw out’ the Muslim MLAs from the assembly after the next government has been formed. TMC strongly protested against this statement by Suvendu Adhikari.

Called TMC as another offshoot of Muslim League

Former BJP state president Suvendu has been suspended from the assembly for the rest of the budget session after being suspended from the house on 17th February. In a confrontation with the Mamata government he claimed that they exercise a divisive form of governance and called it another version of the Muslim League. According to him, this time the people of Bengal will remove this government from power.

What did TMC say

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress disagreed with his statement and labeled it as ‘hate speech’. They also questioned the officer’s mental health. In addition, party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh remarked that no elected official ought to speak in such a manner towards his fellow legislators. He went on to say that there are healthy discussions as well as disputes in Parliament and Assembly, but attacking MLAs of certain relgious faith is a violation of the Constitution. He not only referred to it as a statement with 'provocative and distorted mentality', but termed it as having 'dangerously warped reasoning’.

Other statements like that have been made previously

In contrast, other members of the BJP have chosen to remain silent regarding Adhikari's comment. This won’t be the first or last time that Suvendu Adhikari's comments have sparked controversy. He made such comments that showed Splitism in his own party even after the BJP performed dismally in Bengal during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He declined to support the party slogan 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas', and instead proclaimed, 'Those who are with us, we are with them. We do not require a minority front’. Many BJP leaders distanced themselves from his statement.
