Suspense Crime,Digital Desk:Bank and Stock Market Holiday 2025: The stock markets in India will be closed for trading on May 1, 2025, which is a Thursday. In addition, all consortium banks in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Hyderabad (Telangana), Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram will also remain closed. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have officially declared a holiday on this date, and so trading will also be suspended in the sectors of equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, SLB and securities lending and borrowing.

On May 1, the Stock Market will remain closed to observe Maharashtra Day. It is celebrated with official functions along with diverse cultural programs and parades in the city and most parts of the state, especially in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. It is to be noted that this establishment of Maharashtra state also coincides with Labor Day, thus making this date a public holiday.

Status of US and Asian Markets

The Asian markets were a mixed bag on Wednesday. Japan's Nikkei 225 went higher by 0.57% and finished at 36,045.38 and the Topix closed 0.63% higher at 2,667.29. However, South Korea’s Kospi ended 0.34 percent lower at 2,556.61 while Kosdaq fell by 1.27 percent to 717.24.

To add on, the US stock market also witnessed a mixed close. The Dow Jones appreciated by 0.35 percent and finished at 40669. The S&P 500 also succeeded in closing at 5569 with a slight gain of 0.15 percent. On the contrary, there was a minimal drop in the Nasdaq which closed approximately 15 points lower at 17446.
