Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines with the Ball: Teenage Prodigy Claims Two Quick Wickets in Duleep Trophy Quarter-Final
Teenage cricketing prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcased his multi-dimensional talent on Day 3 of the Duleep Trophy quarter-final, delivering a brilliant bowling spell for East Zone against North East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Although the 15-year-old vice-captain missed out with the bat earlier in the match, he made an instant impact with his bowling by capturing two crucial wickets within the space of four deliveries.
Double Strike Puts North East Zone Under Pressure
Operating during the 28th over of the second innings after being forced to follow on, Sooryavanshi dismantled the opposition's lower-middle order. His first breakthrough came on the second ball of the over when Kishan Lyngdoh charged down the track to an inviting delivery outside off, only to produce a leading edge caught by substitute fielder Denish Das at cover.
Just three balls later, Sooryavanshi struck again by trapping Imliwati Lemtur with a sharp good-length delivery outside off, inducing a thin outside edge safely gathered by wicketkeeper-captain Ishan Kishan. This quick double-strike reduced North East Zone to 102/8, pushing them to the brink of a massive defeat.
East Zone's Total Dominance in Bengaluru
East Zone's commanding position in the match stems from a stellar all-around team performance. After being tested early at 138/5 while batting first, magnificent centuries from Sudip Kumar Gharami (146 runs) and Shahbaz Ahmed (167 runs) propelled East Zone to a formidable total of 467 runs.
In response, North East Zone's batting lineup collapsed completely in both innings. Abhijit Sarkar's devastating five-wicket haul combined with Shahbaz Ahmed's three wickets bundled them out for just 111 in the first innings. Forced to follow on, their struggles continued on Day 3 as Anukul Roy added three scalps to complement Sooryavanshi's twin strikes, steering East Zone comfortably toward a spot in the semi-finals.
