Team India captain Shubman Gill has defended his side's tactical efforts and work rate after Sri Lanka successfully forced a resilient draw in the final Test match in Colombo. Despite putting in more than 250 grueling overs of fielding across three consecutive days, India was thwarted by a magnificent, unbeaten 133-run knock from Sonal Dinusha at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Nevertheless, the stalemate sealed a successful 1-0 series victory for the visitors, building upon their comprehensive 165-run triumph in the opening Test.
Reflecting on a Grueling Test and Sri Lanka's Resistance
Speaking to reporters after the match, Gill expressed satisfaction with his squad's unrelenting effort, noting that the team left nothing out on the field.
"Honestly, nothing. I mean, we fielded for about 250 overs, three days consecutively, and we did everything we can. They played brilliantly. I think the batters played really well, and they had a lot of skill and a little bit of luck going their way. So I don't think we could have done anything differently," Gill stated.
The Indian skipper acknowledged that Sri Lanka's ability to mount a strong comeback under immense scoreboard pressure served as a valuable competitive lesson for his young squad moving forward.

Looking back at the two-Test series as a whole, Gill pointed to multiple standout contributions across both batting and bowling departments. He specifically lauded the skill and execution of Devdutt Padikkal and KL Rahul with the bat, while praising the disciplined spin work of Manav Suthar. Furthermore, Gill highlighted the relentless efforts of fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and the pace unit for bending their backs on docile sub-continental surfaces.
"A lot of positives for us. Padikkal was brilliant, KL was really good, Manav bowled brilliantly, and Prasidh, in both innings, bent their back; both the fast bowlers. So I think we did everything we can," he added.
