Pakistan Women's Cricket Team Plays T20 Matches Against Men's Side in Lahore to Prepare for Asia Cup 2026

In an innovative approach to high-performance training, the Pakistan women’s cricket team adopted an unconventional strategy during their recent preparation camp in Lahore. To gear up for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai, captain Fatima Sana revealed that the squad played a series of competitive T20 matches against a local men's side.

High-Pressure Training at the National Cricket Academy

During their rigorous training camp held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, Fatima’s squad locked horns with players from the Abdul Qadir Cricket Academy. Rather than participating in routine match simulations, both teams competed under full T20 rules.

The primary objective of organizing these fixtures against male cricketers was to expose the national players to superior pace, aggressive bowling, and intense game situations. By forcing the team out of their comfort zone, the coaching staff aimed to sharpen split-second decision-making and enhance mental toughness under heavy match pressure.

Overcoming Past Pressure Points and Targeting Maiden Title

Reflecting on the unique preparation strategy, captain Fatima Sana emphasized that handling crunch moments has historically been a challenge for the side during major global tournaments. Following a tough T20 World Cup campaign where the team struggled to close out tight matches despite stellar individual performances—including her own 11-wicket haul and a gritty unbeaten 55 against South Africa—the need for improved composure became evident.

"We needed to understand how to handle pressure better," Fatima noted. "These matches against the boys have helped us on that front. It is vital to stay calm in crunch moments rather than pressing the panic button, trusting our hard work, and executing our plans."

Pakistan enters the upcoming Asia Cup eyeing their maiden continental title. Having previously finished as runners-up in 2012 and 2016 after falling to India in successive finals, and reaching the semi-finals in recent editions, the squad hopes this intensive preparation will translate into breakthrough success on the international stage.
