IND W vs AUS W: Indian women's team in a do-or-die match, they have to beat Australia at Lord's
Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : In cricket, it's said that catches win matches and the Indian women's team is behind only New Zealand in dropped catches in the T20 World Cup. The Indian women have dropped 10 catches in the ongoing T20 WC and this is definitely a worry before the crucial match against Australia.
Indian women are at second place in Group-1 at the moment but if they lose to Australia and South Africa defeats Bangladesh, then India will not be able to play the semi-finals.
India has to beat Australia at Lord’s
For India to go through they either need to beat Australia at Lord’s to make sure of their own fate or hope Bangladesh, one of the worst teams in the tournament, upset South Africa in their opening match. India have won three of their four games so far and are second with six points. South Africa are also on six points but are a long way behind India on net run rate.
In such a situation they will also have to pray for India to lose to fuel their fire. At 3pm IST, South Africa will take on Bangladesh at Lord's. Post this, the Indian team will take the field at the same venue at 07 p.m. Australia, however, have not lost a single game and are sitting on top of Group 1 with eight points.
Australia to keep first place
They will be impossible to dislodge from the summit, even if they lose their final game, with a net run rate (4.724) more than double that of second-placed India (2.268). This match means nothing for Australia but India can't afford to lose. Mandhana has been the leading run-scorer for India in the tournament with 167 runs while Charani has taken the most wickets (12) for Sri Lanka. India will be largely dependent on the form of these two players.
Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma are in great form
In the batting department, Smriti has received good support from Shafali Verma (145 runs) but apart from these two, no other Indian batsman has managed to score even 100 runs in the entire tournament. After Sri Charani, Deepti Sharma has taken six wickets in bowling.
That much difference between these two is enough to tell you how this tournament is going for the Indian bowling. We have already discussed the state of the fielding. So, it will be tough for Team India to beat Australia but if they fail to win, their journey will end at Lord's.
