Ben Stokes retires from international cricket, takes big decision in the middle of Test against New Zealand

Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : England Test captain Ben Stokes has made a significant decision during the third Test against New Zealand. Stokes has announced his retirement from international cricket. This means the Test match being played in Nottingham will be the last of Stokes' career. 

Stokes informed his teammates before the start of the fourth day of the third Test at Trent Bridge, which was subsequently confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

ECB told great cricketer

ECB chairman Richard Thompson said Stokes was retiring from international cricket as one of England's greatest cricketers of all time. He said: “Ben Stokes is retiring from international cricket as one of England's greatest cricketers of all time. He is one of the greatest players of this generation.”

"His performance under pressure, his competitiveness and his brilliant performances when needed have given me and millions of fans memorable moments that we will always cherish. He has led England to victory in the big moments - his diving strokes to win the 2019 and 2022 World Cups, his historic innings at Headingley or his courageous captaincy of the Test team - Ben Stokes has been a wonder cricketer in English cricket," he said.

Such has been the career

Stokes took over as Test captain in 2022. His captaincy has been widely discussed. Although England never reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship, Stokes' aggressive leadership style has been a highlight. He has delivered many memorable performances throughout his career.

Stokes has played 122 Test matches for England, scoring 7,243 runs with 14 centuries and 37 half-centuries. He has 252 wickets in Tests. In ODIs, Stokes has played 114 matches for England, scoring 3,463 runs, including five centuries and 24 half-centuries. He has 74 wickets in ODIs. Stokes has worn the England jersey 43 times, scoring 585 runs and taking 36 wickets.
