Singapore: A Singapore Airlines flight to Tokyo on Monday was diverted to Taiwan’s capital Taipei after a windshield broke. Flight number SQ636 was carrying 249 passengers and 17 crew members. The flight took off from Changi Airport at 11.07 pm on Sunday and was scheduled to land at Japan’s Haneda Airport at 6.20 am on Monday.

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was diverted to Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport after a mid-flight windshield broke, Channel News Asia reported. A Singapore Airlines spokesperson was quoted as saying the plane landed at the airport “without any hindrances”. The flight number was changed and the plane will depart from Taipei for Tokyo at 8:30 pm, the report said. The spokesperson said the plane will land at Haneda Airport at 12:30 am on Monday, nearly 18 hours late.
The airline apologized for the inconvenience
A Singapore Airlines spokesperson said, “SIA sincerely apologizes to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused.” He said that the safety of the airline’s customers and crew is its top priority. According to reports, the airline has arranged hotel accommodation for the affected customers.
