Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has publicly addressed the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids connected to a massive financial scandal within a state-run body, declaring that his government will not shield anyone found guilty of wrongdoing. The ED has been conducting searches at multiple locations as part of its investigation into the alleged illegal transfer of nearly ₹90 crore from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
The scandal came to light following the tragic suicide of an accounts superintendent of the corporation, who left a death note implicating senior officials and revealing details of the unauthorized fund transfers. The note also mentioned pressure allegedly linked to the then Minister for Scheduled Tribes Welfare, B. Nagendra.
In his statement, CM Siddaramaiah emphasized that his government has already taken decisive action. "We will not support anyone who violates the law. The law should take its own course," he stated. He pointed out that his administration had promptly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a parallel probe into the matter. Furthermore, he highlighted that he had accepted the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
Taking a political stance against the opposition, Siddaramaiah contrasted his government's actions with previous administrations. He challenged the BJP, questioning if any of their ministers had ever resigned in the face of similar corruption allegations, a clear reference to the "40 percent commission" charges leveled against the former BJP government.
The ED's involvement, which focuses on the money laundering aspect of the case, raises the stakes of the investigation, putting the Congress government in Karnataka under significant political and legal pressure.
