Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, has made headlines after scoring a double century against England in the second Test, and with that, he captured the interest of fans all over the world. In this marvelous innings, Gill not only got his first double-ton but also brought himself to the list of few batsmen to have scored one in England. The right-handed opener began his innings 114 not out and in the second day and went on to make a commanding 200 while famously smashing English bowlers to pieces.
His record breaking innings makes him the third Indian batter after legends , Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid, to score a double century in England and it does not end here. Suspended at this position, he also holds the title of being the first Indian Test Captain to score a double hundred in England, overtaking records held by Captains Mohammad Azharuddin (179) and Virat Kohli (149). Furthermore, this places him also as the second youngest Indian captains to double test centuries; only behind Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

The elegant batsman showed extraordinary mental strength and tactics during his innings. He forged important relationships with other players, particularly an all-rounder partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, scoring 203-runs which put India in a commanding position in the match. Given the conversations prior to the series on Gill’s captaincy and batting form in SENA countries, his superb double ton is a strong response to the narrative. Gill was also able to add to his accolades by becoming the first Asian captain to score a double century at Edgbaston which is another feather in his cap.
