Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has publicly commended the producers of Kesari Chapter 2 for choosing to bring the story of C. Sankaran Nair—a prominent Malayali freedom fighter and legal luminary—to the big screen.
Taking to social media platform X, Tharoor posted, “Thrilled to learn that Kesari Chapter 2 will bring the story of C. Sankaran Nair to the big screen! A fearless patriot & the first Malayali President of @incIndia who took on the British after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. His legacy deserves much greater recognition in modern Indian history.”

BJP's Response to Tharoor’s Post
Tharoor’s tweet drew criticism from BJP Kerala President Rajiv Chandrasekhar, who accused the Congress party of sidelining leaders like Nair in favor of promoting the Nehru-Gandhi family. He stated, “Chettur Sankaran Nair was a prominent Indian lawyer, statesman, and former INC president in 1897—yet has been erased from Congress history.”
Chandrasekhar highlighted Nair’s legal efforts against British rule, particularly his case against Michael O’Dwyer, held responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He added, “As a Malayalee, I believe it’s shameful how he has been neglected in Congress and Kerala's history.”

Who Was C. Sankaran Nair?
Chettur Sankaran Nair was a notable figure in pre-independence India. Starting his legal career in 1880 at the Madras High Court, he later contributed to a committee focused on the Malabar district and served as Advocate-General and acting judge.
Between 1908 and 1915, he served as a permanent judge at the Madras High Court. In recognition of his service, he was appointed Companion of the Indian Empire in 1904 and knighted in 1912.
Nair resigned from the Viceroy’s Council in 1919 in protest of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, showcasing his principled stand against colonial atrocities.
