Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 opened in the green on Monday. The BSE Sensex was close to the 82,000 level, while the Nifty was near 25,000. At 9:20 am, the BSE Sensex was trading at 81,968.13, up 280 points or 0.34%. Nifty 50 was at 25,099.75, up 85 points or 0.34%.
Last week, after three consecutive weeks of gains, the domestic markets witnessed a sharp decline of 4.5%, mainly due to negative global sentiment. Rising tensions in the Middle East fuelled a bearish outlook, pushing crude oil prices higher amid concerns of potential supply disruptions.

The US stock market rose.

US stocks rose on Friday, with the Dow hitting a record high and the Nasdaq gaining more than 1%, as a stronger-than-expected jobs report reassured investors who had been worried about a weakening economy.

Asian stocks rose

Asian shares rose after strong US jobs data highlighted the strength of the world’s largest economy and boosted optimism about a soft landing.

Oil prices recorded a rise.

Oil prices gained in early trade on Monday after recording their biggest weekly rise in more than a year on Friday, as the threat of a region-wide war in the Middle East grew. The Japanese yen fell to its lowest level in nearly two months, while other major currencies also struggled with losses early on Monday as the dollar continued its rally, driven by strong US jobs data and rising tensions in the Middle East.

Many stocks are banned from F&O.

Several stocks are in the F&O ban period today, including Birlasoft, Bandhan Bank, Hindustan Copper, RBL Bank, Granules, and Manappuram. Foreign portfolio investors turned net sellers on Friday, selling shares worth Rs 9,896 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 8,905 crore.

FII Data

FII data showed net long positions of foreign institutional investors declined from Rs 1.62 lakh crore on Thursday to Rs 82,987 crore on Friday.
