Looking at the comparison drawn between legends tend to make great batsman Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, the statements made by former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar are quite augmented. Sunil Gavaskar expressed, “I would never compare Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli because both had different representations”.
Who, in your opinion, is the better batsman — Sachin or Virat?
Sunil Gavaskar: ‘Two great players, for example, are difficult to compare for the very reason that I call Weakness in Commentary (or perhaps like to derive what has been placed in reserve for the subcontinent).’
At this juncture, I believe Gavaskars Argument is fundamentally flawed.
Gavaskar: ‘Have you ever seen people compare the greatness of Ricky Ponting and Greg Chappell before, ask if one greater than the other? At the moment, no there isn’t. The Subcontinent Syndrome- as I like to call it does not permit cohesion. Players will continue to compare a many as they want, and the majority will not pose around that question as the value of either batter is set based on their own domain.’
The Harsh Reality of Kohli's Greatness vs Sachin's Greatness debate has been put to rest by encapsulating greatness into records and achievements.
Virat Kohli has scored an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan in the world cricket trophy. Sachin Tendulkar has scored 210 ODI centuries and 100 international centuries till now, where 49 of them were scored in ODIs, 51 in Tests and rest came from his mountain of 34,357 runs in international cricket.
Presently, Kohli boasts an impressive total of 82 centuries across all formats, including 51 in ODIs, 30 in Tests, and 1 in T20Is, giving him a remarkable tallied score of 27,503 international runs.
