Ukraine reported one death and three injuries following a large-scale missile and drone assault on Kyiv overnight. Ukrainian officials stated that the strike, which caused widespread damage and fires in multiple districts, is the biggest attack in recent weeks.

This marks the first major offensive since the U.S. announced it had mediated two ceasefire proposals between Ukraine and Russia, including one to halt strikes on energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian Officials Condemn Continued Attacks

Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said Russia's continued attacks indicate a refusal to end the conflict.

“Russia is increasing the intensity of its attacks and demonstrably does not want to cease fire, does not want peace,” Yermak posted on Telegram, alongside footage of buildings on fire.
He stressed that force is the only response Russian President Vladimir Putin understands and urged allies to act accordingly.

Details of the Overnight Assault

Ukraine’s air force confirmed that Russian forces used a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles, launched from bombers and naval fleets, along with drones.
Several explosions rocked Kyiv overnight, with fires reported in at least three districts. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the death of a man in the Darnytskiy district and injuries to two others who were hospitalized.

Impact on NATO Borders and Polish Response

Due to the proximity of the missile activity to NATO territory, Poland scrambled its aircraft to ensure air safety. Poland remains alert after a 2022 incident when a stray Ukrainian missile struck its territory, killing two civilians.

Further Casualties Across Ukraine

In addition to the Kyiv attack, three people were injured in strikes on the Mykolaiv region. The day before, at least 19 people—including nine children—were killed in a Russian attack on Kryvyi Rih.

International Reactions and Ceasefire Doubts

The escalation casts doubt on recent U.S.-brokered ceasefire initiatives. Russia has not commented on the latest strikes. Both countries continue to deny intentionally targeting civilians. However, the war, ongoing since 2022, has already claimed thousands of civilian lives.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who took office in January, has pledged to end the conflict within 24 hours and is attempting to mediate peace.
