Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed slammed the Indian cricket captain Rohit Singh by calling him “overweight” and saying that, “he is the most unimpressive captain India has ever had.”
After focusing on different aspects of his game, Mohamed tweeted, “ImRo45 is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And ofcourse the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had.”
Her statement came after Captain Rohit Singh posted a score of 15 runs from 17 balls in the Sunday champions trophy match against New Zealand, which was won by India by 44 runs.
This tweet has stirred fresh controversy on Twitter with many people including BJP spoker person Shehzad Poonawalla participating in the debate.
“Those who have lost 90 elections under captaincy of Rahul Gandhi are calling captaincy of Rohit Sharma unimpressive. I guess 6 ducks in Delhi and 90 election losses is impressive but winning T20 world cup isn’t. By the way, he does have a brilliant track record as captain,” said Poonawalla via transcribed statements on X.
Former congress representative Radhika Khera, who after leaving the congress to join the BJP, now claims that the party has “humiliated for decades” abuses the sport.
This is the same Congress that persecuted sportsmen by not granting them any recognition for their achievements for decades and which now has the gall to ridicule a cricketing idol? A self-made champion is being lectured by the party of sycophants?” Khera said.
What was the reaction of netizens?
“For a ‘fat’ sportsman, he has more wins than Rahul Gandhi, and the ‘fat’ sportsman manages to earn the confidence of the entire India, not just his team. This is the kind of tolerance a party shouts about where weight is more appreciated than talent. Why do we even bother with such banter?” Harish, a netizen, stated.
Another supplemented, “Rahul Gandhi: Flexing those muscles but still can’t win any of them.”
India registered a win against New Zealand with a 44-run victory which put them on top of group A. The composure of 79 runs scored by Shreyas Iyer along with the five-wicket haul of Varun Chakravarthy assisted India in setting up a semi-final showdown against Australia for the Champions Trophy.
