After the IPL 2025 match with Delhi Capitals, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered an embarrassing home defeat when Rishabh Pant, LSG's captain, pointed out that the toss influenced the game decisively but maintained that it should not be used as a scapegoat. Within their innings LSG could only muster a sub-par 159/6, while Delhi comfortably reached their target within 18.2 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Rishabh VI: No Excuses Despite the Toss-Di Mica's Controversy

“It wasn’t a surprise considering the conditions were clearly skewed in Delhi’s favor. Lucknow’s pitch is notorious for this, as it clears up for the second half of the match. It literally feels like everything gets blown away in the second half. We knew that. We were at least 20 runs short. There’s a way of prioritizing and tossing, and we get it, but that’s not what we’re doing simply,” Pant explained.

Vijay Dahiya: Commend Delhi for Reading the Conditions Correctly

Dahiya’s statement regarding the Delhi Capitals made it clear that intelligence goes a long way in sport. “We would rather concentrating on talking about the pitch, we would try to tackle the other issues instead. We could have captured that shift in momentum,” says Dahiya. He acknowledged the effective strategy of the opposition team employing cutters and changes of pace while controlling the tempo of LSG’s innings.

Tactical Change: Promotion of Miller

Dahiya also gave Dahiya’s explanation for the reason for David Miller being promoted to No. 5 in order to regain speed after LSG lost 3 quick wickets. “Things aren’t static in T20. We wanted to experiment a bit,” he justifies regarding the decision of employing a more aggressive approach for a few overs.

Current Standings

LSG still sits in fifth position on the IPL 2025 points table. This remains true despite the loss. Meanwhile, Delhi Capital have maintained their second position base with their sixth win of the season courtesy of KL Rahul’s composed unbeaten half century.
