Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Bengaluru's Namma Metro wasn't just transporting commuters on Sunday, June 2nd; it was carrying a city buzzing with cricket victory celebrations! An incredible 9.6 lakh (960,000) passengers flocked to the metro, setting a new all-time high for daily ridership. This massive surge was largely thanks to the enthusiastic fans heading to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) victory parade, celebrating their Women's Premier League (WPL) champions.

The Metro system, managed by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), saw its previous record of 7.69 lakh passengers (set on November 25, 2023, during an India vs Australia cricket match) completely shattered.

To handle the unprecedented rush, BMRCL significantly ramped up its services. Trains on both the Purple and Green Lines ran with increased frequency – as often as every three minutes during peak celebration times, and every five to six minutes otherwise.

The epicentre of the fan celebrations, particularly around areas like Cubbon Park and MG Road Metro stations, experienced immense crowding as supporters gathered for the parade. Despite the joyous chaos, the metro system played a crucial role in enabling so many people to join the festivities.

Breaking down the numbers, the Purple Line (Challaghatta to Whitefield) was the busiest, carrying an impressive 5.17 lakh passengers. The Green Line (Nagasandra to Silk Institute) also saw a huge turnout, with 4.42 lakh riders.

This record-breaking day highlights the vital role Bengaluru Metro plays in the city's mobility, especially during major events, successfully navigating the challenges of transporting nearly a million people swept up in celebratory spirit.
