Compassion and love towards animals is evident in Ratan Tata's final wishes. The legendary industrialist and philanthropist who died on 09 October 2024, made exceptionally generous provisions for a beloved and loyal German Shepherd pet dog, Tito. Rather than a close business partner or relative, Tata included his pet dog in his will.

According to his will, which Tata composed on February 23, 2022, founds of 12 lakh rupees were set aside for the caring of Tito. The amount will be distributed at 30,000 per quarter to make sure that his loyal companion continues to live comfortably without his loving owner. Tito will continue to be looked after by Tata's long-term trusted assistant and cook, Rajan Shaw.

Adopted six years ago, Tito has big pawprints left to fill after the passing of Tata’s other dog, also named Tito. There is a stronger bond striding a pet and owner and Tata treated dogs like loving family members rather than just animals.

His empathy for animals has always been well documented. Back in 2018, Tata infamously skipped an award ceremony in honor of his participation in philanthropic work with the Prince of Wales at the time (now King Charles). Why? One of his dogs was not feeling well. Talking to the press later, Prince Charles said, this is a man. That’s the man Ratan is. That’s why the house of Tata is what it is.

Tatan them most tender and noble side of his personality to the public in July 2023 when he opened India’s first Small Animal Hospital in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, India. The animal hospital being a state of the art facility equipped with ICUs, HDUs, MRI, X-ray, and CT scan services for pets marked a great milestone for India’s veterinary sector as well as Tata’s never ending commitment to animals bereft of a voice.

However, animals were not the only beneficiaries of his charity. He has always been admired for his gentleness and generosity as well. In his last testament, besides charitable bequests as well as familial and friendly provisions, he made certain for his household employees whom he cherished and cared for during his solitude far away from the media and boardrooms attention.

Ratan Tata's legacy cannot be encapsulated in mere corporate achievements or philanthropic work. Rather , it encompasses the affection tarnished on those who could not speak – his pets. As well as the care taken to ensure that their joy, and the joy of those around them, remains posthumously. And in a world led by profit margins, these soft touches are what remind everyone what true greatness is.
