Rajasthan Youth Lured to Burhanpur, Beaten, and Robbed by Gang; Mastermind Arrested
Burhanpur police have successfully cracked down on an audacious cyber fraud gang that used social media to target unsuspecting victims. Operating through alluring financial promises on Instagram reels, the syndicate trapped a youth from Rajasthan by offering to turn ₹1 lakh into ₹10 lakh, before brutally assaulting and robbing him in a remote area of Madhya Pradesh.
The Instagram Bait: How the Trap Was Laid
The chilling incident came to light when the victim, 33-year-old Ramkishore—a resident of the Bhavnda police station area in Nagaur district, Rajasthan—stumbled upon a viral Instagram reel. The post, uploaded by the prime accused, promised an astronomical financial return: turning ₹1 lakh in cash into ₹10 lakh.
Enticed by the lucrative offer, Ramkishore contacted the mobile number listed in the reel's description. Following a series of phone conversations, the fraudster, identified as Vishnu Chauhan, instructed the victim to travel to Burhanpur on August 28 and meet behind a factory located in Daryapur village under the guise of executing the exchange.
Brutal Assault and Robbery at a Desolate Spot
Upon reaching the designated rendezvous point, Ramkishore found Vishnu Chauhan accompanied by two other accomplices. Instead of a business transaction, the victim was ambushed.
The gang physically assaulted Ramkishore, forcefully snatched ₹23,000 in cash from his pockets, and ripped the gold earrings off his ears. Following the violent mugging, all three perpetrators fled the scene on a motorcycle, leaving the distressed victim stranded.
Swift Police Action and Mastermind's Arrest
Taking serious cognizance of the violent crime, Burhanpur Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Bagri formed a specialized investigative team. Utilizing a combination of human intelligence networks, extensive CCTV footage analysis, and technical tracking by the cyber cell, law enforcement zeroed in on the suspects.
Police successfully arrested the mastermind, Vishnu Chauhan, a resident of Bhilkhedi in the Khandwa district. Authorities have seized the mobile phone used to upload the fraudulent Instagram reel and the motorcycle utilized during the crime.
Manhunt Underway for Absconding Accomplices
During sustained interrogation, investigators have been working to uncover the full scope of the syndicate's operations and identify any additional victims of similar social media financial scams.
Raids are currently underway at multiple hideouts to apprehend Vishnu's two fleeing associates. The breakthrough was achieved through the coordinated efforts of Shikarpura station in-charge Sandeep Chaurasia, Sub-Inspector Dilip Singh, Head Constables Santosh Dogne, Vikram Chauhan, Ajay Barule, and Cyber Cell Constables Durgesh Patel and Lalit Chauhan. Law enforcement has once again urged citizens to exercise extreme caution against online financial traps promising unrealistic returns on social media platforms.
