In a landmark development for regional water resource management, a historic agreement was successfully concluded on Tuesday regarding the distribution of water from the proposed Kisau multipurpose dam project on the Tons River, situated along the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The high-level meeting and MoU signing ceremony took place at Kartavya Bhawan in New Delhi under the chairpersonship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The crucial meeting witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Sharma, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, marking a major milestone in inter-state cooperation.
Project Cost, Water Allocation Breakdown, and Benefits for Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, and Delhi
Valued at approximately ₹15,000 crore, the ambitious Kisau multipurpose dam project aims to resolve long-standing water sharing dynamics across northern India. Upon the project's completion, specific water allocations have been designated for participating beneficiary states: Haryana will receive 836 cusecs of water, Uttar Pradesh will secure 543.2 cusecs, Rajasthan is allocated 163.52 cusecs, and the national capital territory of Delhi will receive 105.28 cusecs. Following the formal signing, state leaders—including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini—have outlined the immense regional benefits of the infrastructure venture, which is expected to significantly boost irrigation, drinking water supply, and overall socio-economic development across the participating states.
