To sidestep this issue, the Indian government is advising citizens to set higher temperature limits on their AC’s cooling capacity. The BEE states that even a theoretical increase of one degree could allow for measurable energy savings.
What Bureau of Energy Efficiency Order for Air Conditioners
BEE observes that while most air conditioners are set at 20–21°C, their relaxation range is at 24–25°C, which is where they prefer to stay. Routing electricity usage from 20 degrees to 24 may decrease electricity consuming by nearly a quarter. Even a single degree shift is estimated to reduce energy consumption by nearly 6%.

The Reason For Why Increasing Power Saving Temperature Helps
The modern AC system features room coolers that are more effective with higher power settings. The controller "stops" at a specific temperature, which is referred to as the throttle region (less power required). If it is set at 26°C and used for 8 hours, it is estimated that the compressor runs for at least 5 hours, assuming windows and doors are closed.
