Senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi has underlined the importance of Gujarat within the national framework of the party. While addressing a gathering in Modasa of Aravalli district, he vocalized that the BJP and RSS need to be defeated and this fight needs to begin in Gujarat. He reminded the audience of the state's prominence to the Congress party and its history, and its connections to Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
In his expression, Rahul remained confident concerning regaining political ground in Gujarat saying it is a difficult task, but doable. He stated that the Congress is ready to challenge the alliance of the BJP and RSS, and central to this fight needs to be the state of Gujarat.
Strengthening District Leadership in Gujarat
A crucial point in Gandhi's address was regarding the strategic objective of the party that is aimed at improving district leadership, which has been described as the bottom tier of the party structure.
During his speech, Gandhi made the bold declaration that “every district will now be treated as units on their own with no communication whatsoever with the Amdavad headquarters,” meaning Congress district in Gujarat will be self ruled sovereign regions under the Congress flag.
Gandhi underlined that these leaders will be appointed by selection and not surveillance, which is going to be her suitable and uncompromisable. Hence, real power and authority in the districts will be with the district presidents. The point is that the decision making of these committees should be de-linked from the command structure at the apex level.
Strengthening Bottom-up Turns and Changing the Method of Choosing a Candidate
Rahul had mentioned one more particular problem where Congress-backed candidates seem to cross over after winning the elections. He offered some suggestions on reforms with the most angled attention to selection of candidates loyal, accountable, and performance based.
He appealed to every district to use leadership and stressed that presidents will command with the aid of people’s workers and leaders. This more so attempts to make the organization stronger and more adaptive grounded in real life.
