Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal Surrenders Government Security to Protect the Public

Post

In a remarkable display of public service and selflessness, Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has voluntarily surrendered his government-provided security detail. While leaders across political landscapes frequently lobby for heightened personal protection and extra security personnel, MP Seechewal took the extraordinary step of writing an official letter to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) requesting the immediate withdrawal of his assigned guards. Emphasizing that everyday citizens face far greater vulnerabilities amidst rising criminal activity, his decision has sparked widespread appreciation and drawn critical attention to local law enforcement challenges in Punjab.

Prioritizing Public Safety Over Personal Protection

Sant Seechewal initially accepted security personnel reluctantly, noting that he faced no personal threats or danger. With six security officers previously assigned to his detail, he reasoned that his guards could be utilized much more effectively for the protection of ordinary citizens. In his formal communication to the Punjab DGP, he explicitly requested that his security detail be reassigned to local law enforcement units, suggesting that three officers be stationed at the Lohian Khas police station and the remaining three at the Sultanpur Lodhi police station to bolster community safety against mounting criminal threats.

Raising Concerns Over Rising Crime Rates and Drug Menace

In his detailed letter, the Rajya Sabha MP highlighted mounting concerns regarding the deteriorating law and order situation, specifically pointing to an increase in robberies, thefts, and drug-related crimes across the Lohian area of Jalandhar district and the sacred banks of the Kali Bein in Sultanpur Lodhi. Citing a severe shortage of police personnel at local stations such as Malsian, he stressed that citizens are increasingly feeling unsafe in their daily lives. Pointing to troubling local incidents—including eight thefts occurring in a single night in his own village and frequent vandalism of electrical infrastructure—he underscored the urgent need for enhanced police presence.

Ensuring Safety for Devotees Visiting Sacred Sites

Furthermore, MP Seechewal expressed deep concern over the growing sense of fear among devotees visiting the holy Kali Bein, a revered pilgrimage site associated with the sacred legacy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He noted that an atmosphere of insecurity is unacceptable for pilgrims and locals alike. By choosing to forego his own personal security guards to strengthen public policing infrastructure, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has set an inspiring benchmark for leadership, proving that the safety and well-being of the general public must always supersede individual status.
