Over 35.90 Lakh Beneficiaries Receive Rs 2,150 Crore in Financial Aid Across State Welfare Schemes
In a monumental step toward realizing the cherished dream of a progressive and prosperous 'Rangla Punjab', the Punjab government has successfully disbursed a staggering Rs 2,150.73 crore under various social security welfare initiatives during the current fiscal year up to June 2026. Championing the cause of social justice and inclusive growth, the state administration has ensured that timely financial assistance directly reaches the bank accounts of 35.90 lakh vulnerable citizens, empowering them to live with dignity and financial security.
Massive Fund Disbursement and Old Age Pension Support
Highlighting the extensive reach of these welfare measures, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur announced that a robust budgetary allocation of Rs 6,131.91 crore has been earmarked for the smooth operation of social security schemes throughout the 2026-27 financial year. Out of the total funds released thus far, a major portion amounting to Rs 1,423.33 crore has been directly channeled toward the flagship Old Age Pension Scheme up to June 2026, providing crucial monthly sustenance to 23.77 lakh senior citizens across the state.
Expanding Welfare Nets for Widows, Dependent Children, and Needy Groups
Beyond senior citizen welfare, the government has extended comprehensive financial safety nets to other marginalized sections of society. An additional Rs 727.40 crore has been disbursed to 12.13 lakh beneficiaries, encompassing widows, dependent children, and other economically vulnerable groups. Reaffirming the administration's proactive governance model, the Minister has strictly directed department officials to streamline verification procedures, ensure absolute transparency, and fast-track new applications so that no deserving citizen is left behind.
