Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Muhammed Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, is said to be contemplating resignation owing to the inability to perform his functions. BBC Bangla cited National Citizen Party Leader Nhid Islam as saying on Friday that the consensus among political parties and their acute imbalance has constrained the governance of Yunus, significantly.
Islam verified that the hearsay of resignation has been making rounds since yesterday morning. Islam encapsulated his meeting with Yunus claiming that the adviser candidly accepted that he was mulling around resigning and the stand off in politics was what is hindering his further effectiveness.
NCP urges unity and support for Yunus
Islam advocated for Yunus, implying that he should refrain from relinquishing the position because of the need of governance for stability in the country and bolstering public confidence after a nation wide rebellion. This needs to be rationalized, as the NCP leader noted expecting political parties to support the government in due course.
However, Islam pointed out that politically, there is no hope to stay if it is assumed that there is no trust and support from key political stakeholders. “The situation that is found with this assumption, he can’t perform his duties, then why waste time in the office,” he said.
Tensions rise with military advancements
Recently, Yunus’s administration has come under increased military pressure. The armed forces, which were active during the student protests last year, did not engage with the protesters, helped ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s departure and enabled her exit.
