The 19-year-old rising singer Pravasthi Aaradhya has come forth with massive claims of prejudice and body shaming against the judges and team of Padutha Theeyaga Silver Jubilee on its Show’s Instagram page. According to a series of videos she posted on Instagram during her time on the show, she went through a lot of harassment, discrimination, and shaming.
She has also pointed out the impropriatness from the production team regarding her looks and behavior towards her as a character in the show. Some of the people that she put under the bus were very famous like Singer Sunitha, Music Director MM Keeravani, and Lyricist Chandrabose.
In her case, it looks like the only person who had no sympathy was the director of the show who she claims put her under exposure after winning another singing competition in 2024. She contested that the situation that has been described above is fundamentally different from the past seasons that used to be hosted by SP Balasubrahmanyam which in essence means them had felt a lot friendlier in the earlier years unlike in recent ones.
The Philanthropist accused Sunitha of makung derogatory backhanded comments about her skills which he alleges Keeravani did too but said in a much softer voice borderline beyond overhearing range but was wearing an earpiece that made it possible. She further claimed that initially praising her performances was the last swing of the show for Chandrabose.
Pravasthi was most hurt by the comments made by Keeravaani which, as she believed, had been aimed at her background and financial situation. She noted that his dislike for wedding singers was directed towards her and that it was particularly disheartening when he spoke of “chakiri” (job) in reference to singers.
The impact of those incidents, she disclosed, greatly diminished her self confidence and mental health. She further disclosed that she was frequently told to put on sarees that sophisticated her, with the costume designer stating that he could not do better because of her figure. According to her, those remarks made her lose a lot of self-confidence.
Through a lot of effort, Pravasthi narrated, she was able to solicit help but was found to be making statements that were counter to the popular opinion, such as being bullied into silence. In her own words, those mundane actions were emblematic of a much deeper societal disease wherein people feel compelled to uphold the deception in silence, being too afraid to articulate a single syllable without incurring condemnation.
Many A-listers on social media didn’t believe she was coming from a place of contempt for being cut my show, and she is sympathetic to those who argue so pointed out that her motivation has more to do with the treatment she felt was not provided to her montre maker through why is thrust away, as she finds it difficult to take when those who left so easily dismiss unkind treatment.
Since her videos went up, she has encountered both support and scrutiny online. She stated that judges’ fans should stop regarding celebrities as holy figures and allow her to speak on her life without being disrespected.
Currently, there is no statement available from Sunitha, MM Keeravaani, Chandrabose, SP Charan or the production house Gnapika Productions regarding the matter.
