Suspense crime, Digital Desk : During his visit to Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 marking its first iteration in India, and called it a platform for fostering creativity, cultural interplay, and partnership on a global scale. The event spanning four days aims to set India as the epicenter of entertainment and creative innovation with the tagline ‘Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries'. 

In his inaugural address, Modi stated, "WAVES is not just an event. It’s a global space where every artist and young creator can connect with the world through creativity and fresh ideas."  

Modi Celebrates Cultural Legacy and Creative Growth  

Underscoring the first ever purpose driven summit initiative WAVES 2025, Modi called it ‘roaring with purpose’, while also praising the eagle view global impact. The PM pointed out earlier campaigns like Gandhi 150, where short creative video clips began to amplify India’s message, as proof of the nation’s collaborative personality.  

On the sidelines of the summit, the Premier spoke to the international audience about Bollywood, stating that Indian movies enjoyed popularity outside the nation due to legendary actors like Raj Kapoor were praised by people from Russia. Satyajit Rai won accolades at the Cannes film festival, and India’s RRR movie proudly represented us at the Oscars.

India as a Hub of Stories and Innovations

Modi emphasized the selective storytelling ethos for India by saying, “India is a land of over a billion stories. As the world is looking for new formats of storytelling, India has AoD's narrative which is provocation is timeliness, not just in culture but also in science, sports and the list is endless."

He reiterated the point that WAVES must be an event which brings out India’s treasures to tell the world.

Over the top or NOT? Rise of OTT platform Understanding VFX Creation

While focusing on the flashier side of the digital world, PM Modi mentioned that foreign audiences are consuming more and more Indian content which is being made available with subtitles. He noted the growth of OTT platforms quoting “the screen may be small. But the scope is enormous.”

Modi further added that the worldwide animation industry which exists at the value of $430 billion is set to double in the next decade. ‘India’s Animation and VFX fields stand to gain a lot,' she argued.
