If you live in Kerala and have some banking errands on your to-do list, you’ll want to get them done early this week. With the vibrant festival of Onam just around the corner, banks across the state are set to close for two consecutive days.
Banks will be shut on Thursday, September 4, and Friday, September 5, 2025, to celebrate First Onam (Uthradam) and Thiruvonam, respectively. These are public holidays, so no in-person services will be available.
But here’s the crucial part: these two holidays lead directly into the weekend. With Saturday and Sunday also being bank holidays, it effectively creates a four-day stretch where bank branches will be closed to the public. That’s a long time if you need to handle something urgently.
Of course, this doesn't mean you'll be completely cut off from your money. ATMs, cash deposit machines, mobile banking, and online banking services will all be functioning normally. So, for digital transactions and cash withdrawals, you’re covered.
Still, if you need to deposit a cheque, update your passbook, visit a locker, or handle any business that requires a bank employee, make sure you do it before Thursday. Plan ahead to avoid getting caught in a bind.
