On Saturday, the current Minister of Defence of Pakistan, Khawaja Asif, warned that the current negotiations with Afghanistan during meetings in Istanbul, “could lead to open war.”

This statement was issued shortly before the second round of Afghanistan Pakistan negotiations started in Istanbul on Saturday, as reported in the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

These talks aimed to relieve the central border sustained confrontations of the last two weeks, primarily to address border security issues and to end a prolonged, simmering cease-fire on the border.

Referring to the civilian casualties as the Afghanistan border tensions escalated, Khawaja Asif reiterated to the media that “Afghanistan wants peace, but the failure to make a deal means open war.”

Concentrations of violence and civilian deaths brought on border retaliations as a result of explosions in central Kabul, which the Taliban government blamed on Pakistan and exceeded border retaliations.

Initially the violence was to be contained, but promises quickly fell apart. Kabul placed the blame on Islamabad.

After the violence escalated, gauges placed on violence in the region were renewed, and seem to be holding.
