Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Khawaja Asif, the Defence Minister of Pakistan, made some alarming comments concerning his country’s military readiness which came in response to the horrific Pahalgam massacre in Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir. “Something inevitable will happen now” he warned while speaking to Reuters and further added that the ‘next two to three days are crucial’.
He previously claimed that Pakistan's armed forces are on high alert and reitered his country’s stance of nuclear retaliation if their national security faces serious jeopardy.
Pakistan Government Briefed on Possible Indian Military Response
Asif disclosed that the Pakistani military had prepped PM Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet with a situation concerning a possible assault from India, but did not go into detail regarding the information that led to this conclusion.
The day after this statement, Asif went on to clarify his remarks. “I never said a war will break out in three days,” he said, but also acknowledged that “the threat of war is real,” leaving us in a state of unease regarding further escalation.
Tensions Escalate After India Shuts Down Indus Waters Treaty
The Pahalgam killings has now added yet another wrinkle to India-Pakistan relations with India suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. In retaliation, Pakistan’s National Security Committee stated that any effort to redirect the river tributaries will be treated as 'an act of war.'
The conflict from the attack that killed 26 people, including tourists, locals and soldiers, sparked yet another round of military and diplomatic responses from both sides.
Border Cross Firing and Urgent Meetings in New Delhi
Both countries are currently in a state of increased conflict along the Line of Control. Indian security forces reported that for the fifth night in a row, unprovoked shooting was conducted by Pakistani troops.
In New Delhi, the CCS is planning a second round of meetings to discuss indepth the latest developments in the region. There was also a senior meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs with the senior management from CRPF and BSF NSG to analyze the level of security readiness.
