Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Getting around Bengaluru is about to get a whole lot easier. In a game-changing move for urban mobility, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is partnering with mobility apps, starting with Rapido, to allow commuters to buy their metro tickets directly within the third-party app.

This means you will soon be able to book your bike taxi or auto to the metro station and purchase your metro QR ticket in a single, seamless transaction on the Rapido app. This eliminates the need to stand in queues or use a separate app for your metro journey, creating a truly integrated travel experience.

How Will It Work?

The process is designed for maximum convenience. BMRCL has opened up its Application Programming Interface (API), allowing partners like Rapido to access its ticketing system.

Commuters will simply:

  1. Open the Rapido app.
  2. Enter their destination and choose the metro option.
  3. The app will issue a QR code ticket.
  4. Scan this QR code at the metro station's automatic fare collection (AFC) gates to enter and exit.

This initiative is a major step towards solving the "last-mile connectivity" problem that plagues many public transport users. By integrating different modes of transport into one platform, BMRCL aims to make the Namma Metro a more attractive and accessible option for everyone.

While Rapido is the first to get on board, it won't be the last. This move is part of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) framework, which encourages open digital ecosystems. This means other major mobility and payment apps like Uber, Ola, and PhonePe could soon follow suit.

For a city notorious for its traffic woes, this smart, technology-driven solution promises a smoother, faster, and more connected daily commute for millions.
