ONDC is giving e-commerce companies a hard time, 6 lakh sellers joined, orders worth so many crores received

The government-run Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is giving a tough competition to private e-commerce companies. ONDC is now getting more than 1.2 crore orders per month. More than 6 lakh sellers have joined it. This information was given on Tuesday. This network is empowering a wide range of sellers, including millions of small businesses, artisans, women entrepreneurs, farmers, and street vendors, so that they can compete effectively and reach out to the people. The network operates in more than 609 cities and delivers to 1,200 cities nationwide. In July, ONDC also launched the network’s auto components and accessories category on the network.

Employing lakhs of people 

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, “ONDC operates with a startup mindset and a government-level approach. In this, it is adapting to the dynamics of the rapidly evolving market. It is led by a team of technocrats and an experienced ONDC Advisory Council.” By being interoperable, unbundled, and decentralized, ONDC breaks down a complex system into separate microservices. It can be offered by different people separately. This will have positive results for everyone. The ONDC architecture promotes trust in the e-commerce system.

430,000 orders received daily in July

ONDC is further expanding its capabilities for deeper and better integration with key platforms of the government. “ONDC will enable inter-lock and linkage across government platforms to serve a common set of beneficiaries to achieve integrated objectives,” the ministry said. ONDC achieved 430,000 daily orders in July. ONDC recorded a 21 percent month-on-month growth in July to 12 million compared to 10 million in June. The network has witnessed transactions of 374,000 orders in a single day on June 30 during the recently concluded T20 World Cup final.
