Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Pakistan's government has issued a sharp rebuke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments made during a political rally in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing him of attempting to mislead the world and "obfuscate the reality" of the situation in the disputed region.
The diplomatic clash erupted after PM Modi, speaking in Udhampur, took aim at Kashmir's prominent political families—the Abdullahs and the Muftis. He accused their parties, the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of betraying the core Kashmiri values of "Insaniyat" (humanity) and "Kashmiriyat" (the region's unique syncretic culture). Modi celebrated the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which removed the region's special autonomous status, framing it as a move that liberated the people from decades of misrule and paved the way for development and peace.
In a formal response, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, dismissed Modi's remarks as "disingenuous." She reiterated Pakistan's long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir is an "internationally-recognised disputed territory" and not an integral part of India.
The spokesperson claimed that the reality on the ground is one of continued human rights violations and the suppression of the Kashmiri people's identity. Baloch stated that India cannot "obfuscate this reality with false and self-serving narratives." She further asserted that the dispute must be resolved according to the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, which call for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.
This exchange marks the latest war of words between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, highlighting the deep and persistent chasm in their perspectives on the Kashmir issue, especially following India's decisive 2019 policy shift.
